Asti is the nearest town of size, with rail services, shops and the main concentration of services; Chivasso is another practical centre. The area is known for wine, especially the Monferrato vineyards, and for mixed hill agriculture with hazelnuts and small hilltop villages. Parts of Monferrato farther south have UNESCO vineyard landscape status, but not this immediate area around Cocconato.
