This is in the vine-covered hills between Asti and the Belbo valley, in the transition between Monferrato and the Langhe. The Tanaro river valley lies nearby to the south-west. Nizza Monferrato is the nearest town of some size, with everyday services and a substantial historic centre; Asti is the larger city in the wider area. The landscape around Montegrosso d'Asti is known for vineyards and wine production, including the Barbera area around Nizza. Parts of the wider Monferrato vineyard landscape have UNESCO World Heritage status, and this area sits within that wine-country setting.
