The area sits on the Murge karst plateau, with rolling limestone countryside, dry-stone walls, vineyards, olive groves and scattered trulli. It is close to the Valle d’Itria landscape around Alberobello, Locorotondo and Martina Franca, which begins within this radius. Putignano itself is a substantial town with services and a historic center, and larger towns nearby include Monopoli on the Adriatic coast and Conversano inland. Alberobello, within reach of the cluster, is a UNESCO World Heritage site for its concentration of trulli. The area is known for trulli, karst terrain and mixed agricultural countryside typical of central Puglia.
