This is hill country in the Irpinia interior, with cultivated slopes, wooded patches and small valleys around the Sabato basin. The Sabato river runs nearby toward Avellino and Benevento. Monti Picentini lie to the south-east, but the main mountain mass is outside the immediate 15 km radius. Avellino is the nearest town of size, with full services, shops, schools and rail and road links. The area is known for vineyards and wine production in the Aglianico di Taurasi zone, along with olive growing and mixed agriculture.
