This is the eastern Bolognese plain in the lower Po Valley, with flat agricultural land, drainage canals and scattered hamlets. The Reno valley and the first Apennine relief are well beyond the immediate area, so within about 15 km the landscape is predominantly reclaimed plain rather than hill country. Bologna is the nearest large city and provides the full range of services, rail links and airport access, but it does not change the character of the immediate surroundings. The area is known mainly for arable farming and the network of waterways typical of the plain between Bologna and Ferrara.
