The area sits in the foothills between the Majella massif and the lower Sangro valley. The Aventino river runs through Casoli, and Lake Sant'Angelo is at the edge of the town. The Maiella National Park begins a short distance inland, with the eastern slopes and gorges of the massif within roughly this radius; the Palombaro and Fara San Martino side of the mountain is the nearest high-relief area. The nearest ski lifts are on the Majella, around Passolanciano and Mammarosa, roughly an hour's drive depending on the exact starting point. Lanciano is the nearest larger town, with a full range of services, rail connections on the Adriatic side, and a substantial historic centre. Casoli has a castle above the old town, and the wider area is known for olive groves, vineyards, and access routes from the Adriatic plain into the Majella interior.
