This is inland central Sicily, in a landscape of cultivated hills and low ridges around the Salso-Imera basin rather than a distinct mountain or coastal setting. Caltanissetta is the nearest larger centre, with the usual provincial services, shops and rail connections. The area is known historically for grain farming and sulphur-mining country across the interior of this part of Sicily.
