The cluster sits in the lower Crati valley on the hills just north of Cosenza, with the Sila massif visible to the east and the coastal range of the Paolana side farther west. The Crati river runs through the broad valley floor nearby. The Sila National Park begins farther east, outside the immediate area. The nearest ski lifts are on the Sila plateau around Camigliatello Silano, roughly an hour’s drive, so they are not part of the immediate landscape. Cosenza and Rende form the nearest urban centre, with the historic core of Cosenza, services, shops, hospitals and the University of Calabria at Arcavacata. This part of the province is known for olive groves, mixed hill farming and as the inland approach between the Tyrrhenian side and the Sila.
