The cluster is in the inland hills of central Sicily, with cultivated slopes and broad views over the Dittaino basin and the Erei uplands. Assoro itself stands on a high ridge with a medieval hill settlement pattern, and nearby Enna is the nearest town of size with services, schools and a university presence. Within this part of the province the landscape is defined more by grain fields, rolling clay and limestone hills, and ravines than by a single named natural feature. The area is known for inland Sicilian agriculture, especially cereals and olive groves.
