The cluster lies in the lower Po plain, in reclaimed flat land around the Po di Volano and the eastern edge of the Po Delta. The Parco regionale del Delta del Po is within this area, with canals, embankments, wetlands and pinewoods toward the coast. Pomposa Abbey is near Codigoro and is one of the main historic monuments in this part of Ferrara province. Comacchio is the nearest small town of note, with lagoon channels and services; Ferrara is the nearest larger city for a full range of hospitals, rail connections and major retail. The area is known for delta landscapes, fishing and eel, aquaculture, and rice and arable farming on reclaimed land.
