The area is the lower Po plain around the Valli di Comacchio and the wetlands of the Parco regionale del Delta del Po. The Reno river runs nearby and the landscape is flat, with reclaimed farmland, canals, embankments and wetland basins. Comacchio is the nearest place of note, with a historic centre built on canals and lagoon environment. Ravenna is the nearest larger city, with full services and major early Christian monuments. The area is known for eel fishing, reclaimed marshland and birdlife in the Po Delta.
