The cluster is in the built-up area of Ancona, so the immediate setting is urban streets and port infrastructure on the Adriatic headland. Monte Conero and the Conero Regional Park lie just to the south, with limestone slopes and the coast around Portonovo and Sirolo, but they are outside the immediate urban area. Ancona is a provincial capital with a historic centre, passenger and freight port, hospitals and university facilities.
