Catanzaro is the provincial capital and has the full set of city services, administrative offices, shops, schools and hospitals. The historic core stands on a ridge, and the city is known for its position between hilltop districts and the coastal quarter of Catanzaro Lido. The coast at Catanzaro Lido is within the local area, with urban beaches on the Gulf of Squillace.
