Frazione Rovello Superiore, Mongiardino Ligure

The cluster is in the Ligurian Apennines, in the upper Curone valley near the passes that link south-east Piemonte with the Genoese side. The Curone and its side valleys shape the immediate landscape of wooded slopes, pasture and scattered hamlets. This area falls within the wider Appennino Piemontese landscape; the Alta Val Borbera and the Monte Ebro-Monte Chiappo ridge are nearby, with the protected area of the Parco Naturale delle Capanne di Marcarolo farther west beyond the 15 km radius. The nearest small service centres are Cabella Ligure and, a bit farther, Arquata Scrivia and Tortona for fuller shops, rail links and services. The area is known for chestnut woods, mixed mountain farming and the old road connections between Piedmont and Liguria.
