The area sits in the central Umbrian hills, with low wooded ridges and farmland rather than high mountains. Within about 15 km is Monte Peglia, the main relief of this part of western Umbria, with mixed woodland and viewpoints over the Tiber valley side of the region. The Tevere river runs east of here beyond the immediate hills, and the landscape around the houses is mainly inland hill country cut by small valleys. This is the area of the Monte Peglia e Selva di Meana UNESCO biosphere reserve. San Venanzo is known locally for the volcanic area of the Parco Vulcanologico and for the Venanzo volcanic rock.
