The cluster lies on the slopes of Monte Vulture, an extinct volcanic cone that shapes the local relief. Within about 15 km are the Monticchio lakes (Lago Grande and Lago Piccolo), two small volcanic lakes with wooded shores. The Monticchio lakes area is protected as a regional nature reserve. Vineyards on the volcanic soils around Monte Vulture produce Aglianico del Vulture wine and viticulture is a prominent local land use. The nearby town of Melfi (about 10 km) has the Norman Castle of Melfi, municipal services and a large automotive plant (Stellantis/FCA). The surroundings are inland hilly volcanic countryside with mixed woodland and farmland rather than coastal or alpine terrain. There are no major ski lifts within the 15 km radius and no UNESCO designation in the immediate area.
