The area sits in the Apennines, with the Monti Sibillini rising to the south and southwest within this radius. It is close to the upper valleys of the Chienti and Potenza systems, in a landscape of ridges, wooded slopes and cultivated uplands. The Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini begins within reach to the south around Bolognola and the high ground toward Fiastra. The nearest ski area is Sassotetto at Sarnano, roughly an hour by road, and the lifts on the Sibillini side around Bolognola are also about an hour depending on the exact hamlet. Camerino itself is a hill town with a historic centre, university, theatre and major churches, and the Rocca Borgesca is one of its landmarks. The wider area is known for earthquake-damaged historic towns and for access to the Sibillini massif and the inland Marche uplands.
