Villa

The cluster is in the Hyblaean plateau country south of Noto, with low limestone hills cut by dry valleys and a farmed landscape of olive groves, almond trees and stone-walled fields. The nearest marked natural feature is the Cava Grande del Cassibile area, a deep limestone gorge and nature reserve within roughly this radius. The Ionian coast is outside the immediate 15 km radius, but the Vendicari wetlands and beaches are part of the wider area south-east of Noto. Noto is the nearest town of size and has a large Baroque historic centre rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake; the Val di Noto late-Baroque towns are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is known for Baroque townscapes, limestone canyon country, and almond and olive cultivation.
